Delaware high school girls' wrestling
DIAA has sanctioned girls' wrestling in Delaware and has not yet held the first state championship. 291 girls wrestled here in 2025-26, at 18 schools.

What the record shows
Delaware has sanctioned girls wrestling but has not yet held its first championship. The DIAA Board of Directors approved girls wrestling as a Level 3 sanctioned championship sport on March 12, 2026, effective with the 2026-27 school year, and scheduled the first individual prelims and finals for February 5 and 6, 2027. Weight classes are posted as TBA. Weight classes re-read 2026-09-22: no weight class list found on https://education.delaware.gov/diaa/sport_championships/winter_sports/girls_wrestling/ as of 2026-09-22. The page carries 2026-27 competition dates, with individual prelims on February 5, 2027 and semifinals and finals on February 6, 2027, and lists 2027 event information as TBA. The DIAA Weight Management Program 2026-2027 prints 19 percent for females ("A female wrestler whose body fat is less than 19% must also submit a Physician’s Clearance Form") and prints no class list. The DIAA's own 2026-2027 Body Composition Testing Summary still reads "sub-7% (12% for females)" in its body fat testing rules, which conflicts with the program's 19 percent.

Weight classes
We could not establish which of the three NFHS girls' sets DIAA uses from the pages we read, so this page prints none.
A missing table beats a wrong one. The NFHS offers three girls' sets of 12, 13 and 14 classes and they do not share limits, so printing the wrong one would hand a wrestler a class her state does not wrestle. All three sets are here, and the one your state uses is on your association's wrestling page or in the season bulletin your coach has.
Growth allowance
The NFHS book says a growth allowance of 2 pounds "may be added to each weight class any time after the date of certification" (4-4-4). The DIAA decides whether and when it applies.

Consecutive-day allowance
On consecutive days of team competition, the NFHS book grants every wrestler 1 pound a day, up to 2 pounds, when the opponent has been given at least 48 hours' notice (4-5-5). The DIAA decides whether and when it applies and can add conditions of its own; what its documents say is below.

What to do if your school has no girls' team
We found no published DIAA rule covering a girl whose school has no girls' team. That is not the same as a ban: ask the school and the association.
The general path, in the order that works: ask the athletic director first, in writing, whether the school will enter you and under what rule. Most schools have never been asked, and the answer to a written question goes on the record in a way a hallway conversation does not. If the school will not enter you, ask DIAA directly what a student in your position may do; associations answer these, and the answer is the one that binds your school.
Train while you sort it out. A club room is where most girls in a state without a school team actually wrestle, and club season runs when the school season does not. The clubs in Delaware are listed by city, with the girls' rooms and girls' practices flagged where the club says so.

Before the season starts
A girl's legal minimum wrestling weight is built on the 19 percent body fat floor the NFHS sets for girls, not the boys' 7 percent. That is roughly sixteen pounds of difference for a fifteen year old, and every app built on the boys' number gets it wrong. The NFHS raised it to 19 for 2026-27 (Rules 1-5-1, 1-5-2), and this site and the app compute 19.
