Rianne Murphy grew up in Crown Point, Indiana, and split her high school years between Crown Point High School and Wyoming Seminary in Pennsylvania. Indiana had no sanctioned girls' wrestling for most of that time, so her early results came in freestyle. In October 2021 she won the U15 Pan American title at 50 kg, the international weight class of about 110 pounds.
In July 2022 she won the 16U women's freestyle national title in Fargo at 100 pounds. She pinned Mary Manis of Florida in the final while leading 8-2. That fall she lost the Super 32 final 10-10 to Morgan Turner of Illinois. In December she won the first Midlands women's championship at 101 pounds over Maddie Avila of North Central College.
In April 2023 she won the U17 national title at 46 kg, taking a best-of-three series from Caley Graber of Minnesota by a 10-0 technical fall in the third match. At the U17 World Championships in Istanbul that August, she lost her opening match by fall to Valeryia Tsitova, competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete. She finished her prep career in February 2024 with a National Prep title at 107 pounds, pinning Kayla Batres of Greens Farms Academy in 2:30.
As an Iowa freshman in 2024-25 she went 32-4 with 20 pins. She entered the NCWWC national tournament as the top seed at 103 pounds, lost 8-0 in the semifinals to Olivia Shore of Otterbein, and came back to place third. As a sophomore she went 22-7 and won the Waldorf Open 4-2 over teammate Sterling Dias. Teammate Valarie Solorio moved down to 103, took the postseason spot, and won the first NCAA title there. In April 2026 Murphy placed sixth at the U20 nationals at 50 kg.
She is a junior at Iowa, listed at 103 pounds for 2026-27, and competes with Dias and Solorio for the Hawkeyes' spot at 103.
She is a junior on the University of Iowa women's wrestling team, listed at 103 pounds for the 2026-27 season and majoring in business.
