Mallory Velte grew up in the Sacramento area and wrestled at Christian Brothers High School. She won California CIF girls' state titles in 2012 and 2013.
She went north to Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. She won WCWA national titles in 2016, 2017 and 2018, took University Nationals in 2016 and 2017, and was named Simon Fraser's female athlete of the year in 2017. In April 2016 she took bronze at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Iowa City at 63 kg, about 139 pounds. She went 5-1 there, losing only to second-ranked Erin Clodgo of Northern Michigan and then winning four straight on the consolation side. She was also runner-up at the 2016 U.S. World Team Trials at 60 kg.
She placed 14th at the 2017 World Championships in France at 63 kg. The next October in Budapest she won bronze at 62 kg for her first World medal. She was second at the 2019 Pan American Championships and won the Pan American title at 62 kg in Canada in March 2020.
At 65 kg she won a second World bronze in 2022 in Serbia. In February 2023 she was second at the Zagreb Open, and that May she won a second Pan American title in Argentina. She won the Senior Nationals at 68 kg in December 2023. At the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials she was the top seed in the 62 kg challenge tournament and lost her semifinal to Jennifer Page of the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club.
She has worked in athlete leadership and advocacy since 2018. Beat the Streets LA hired her in June 2024, when she was living in Corvallis, Oregon, and preparing to move to Los Angeles.
She works for Beat the Streets LA as associate director of mentorship and programming, working with young wrestlers in Los Angeles, and she represents wrestlers on the Team USA Athletes' Commission.
