Katie Gomez grew up in Van Nuys, California, and wrestled for Birmingham Community Charter High School. In July 2021, at 17, she won the U17 World title at 53 kg, about 116 pounds, in Budapest, beating Natalia Khramenkova of Russia 10-0 in the final. She had already beaten opponents from Hungary, India and Turkey that week.
As a senior in 2021-22 she went 48-1 at 126 pounds and won her third Los Angeles City Section title. She placed third at the CIF California state championships, where Ella Jauregui of Palo Alto handed her the only loss of the season.
In August 2022 she won U20 World bronze at 53 kg in Sofia, closing with a 12-2 win over Shaimaa Mohamed of Egypt. In 2023 she won the U.S. Open, reached Final X and lost both matches there to her Sunkist Kids teammate Dominique Parrish. She placed fifth at the U20 World Championships in Amman and 11th at the U23 World Championships in Tirana that year.
Gomez wrestled the 2024-25 season for the University of the Cumberlands. At the NAIA National Championships in Park City, Kansas, she beat Joanna Vanderwood of William Penn 8-2 in the semifinals. She then tied Cristelle Rodriguez of Doane 5-5 in the 124-pound final and finished as national runner-up on criteria.
In April 2026 she won the U.S. Open at 50 kg in Las Vegas, went 5-0 and took the Outstanding Wrestler award. She beat top seed Erin Golston of the New York AC 5-0 in the final. Two weeks later she won Pan American gold in Coralville, Iowa, over Jacqueline Mollocana Eleno of Ecuador, 5-3. At Final X in Newark in June she lost the best-of-three series to Morgan Turner of All I See Is Gold Academy two matches to one.
She wrestles for the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club at 50 kg and is ranked second in the country going into 2026-27.
