Jacarra Winchester grew up in Oakland, California, and started wrestling as a junior at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo. A year later, in 2010, she won the California girls' state championship.
She wrestled at Missouri Valley College for Carl Murphree and majored in accounting. She was second at the 2013 WCWA National Championships at 116 pounds and won the 2015 WCWA title at 130 pounds. In 2014 she won University Nationals and took bronze at the University World Championships in Pecs, Hungary. She made the U.S. Senior national team for the first time that year.
She moved to Colorado Springs to train at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. In 2018 she won her first U.S. Open, made her first Senior World Team, and placed fifth in Budapest. On September 18, 2019, in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, she opened with technical falls over Madina Nadirova of Kyrgyzstan and Bolortuya Bat Ochir of Mongolia, then beat Bediha Gun of Turkey 6-4 in the semifinals. In the final she beat Nanami Irie of Japan 5-3 at 55 kg, about 121 pounds, for the first American gold of those championships.
Because 55 kg is not an Olympic class, she moved to 53 kg. She swept Ronna Heaton of the Sunkist Kids in the 2021 Olympic Team Trials final in Fort Worth and placed fifth in Tokyo. She was fifth again at the 2022 World Championships, then took silver in Belgrade in 2023, losing the final 4-2 to Haruna Okuno of Japan.
She moved up to 59 kg, beat Abigail Nette of the Army WCAP in a three-match Final X series in Newark in June 2025, and wrestled her sixth Senior World Championships in Zagreb that September. She was the top seed at the 2026 Senior World Team Trials in Louisville and did not reach the medal matches. She trains at the Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
