Heaven Fitch started wrestling at six, following her three older brothers onto the mat. Her family moved from the Charlotte area to Asheboro, North Carolina, and she wrestled for Chris Waddell at Uwharrie Charter Academy, the only girl on a 26-person team. She estimated that about 95 percent of her matches came against boys.
In 2018 she placed eighth at 100 pounds at the Fargo national championships. That winter, as a sophomore, she took fourth in the 1A 106-pound bracket and became the first girl to place at the North Carolina state championships. The next summer she took third at 94 pounds at Fargo and fifth in the Junior division.
In February 2020, at 16, she won the state title. The bracket of eight included seven boys. She pinned Austin Jones of Starmount in the first round and beat Hunter Fulp of North Stanly 9-4 in the semifinals. In the final at Greensboro she took an 11-3 major decision over Luke Wilson of Robbinsville. She was the first girl to win an individual state wrestling championship in North Carolina, and she was named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the 1A classification. She finished the season 54-4.
A year later WWE released a 22-minute documentary about her called Heaven, narrated by Beth Phoenix. It was the first film the company had made about an athlete from outside professional wrestling.
She was second at the 1A East Regional as a senior in 2021 and lost a 6-4 semifinal to Wilson at the state tournament, then beat Hope Horan of Mount Airy 7-2 for third. She left Uwharrie Charter with a 176-37 high school record. Randolph County still measures its girls' state champions against the title she won in the boys' bracket.
