Emma Bruntil was born on November 6, 1999, and grew up in Acme, Washington, the daughter of Robin and Craig Bruntil. She placed sixth at the Washington state championships for Nooksack Valley in 2016 and won a state title the next year. She finished her high school career at Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania, ranked first in the country at her weight.
She won the Junior Pan American Championships in 2017 and USA Wrestling Junior freestyle national titles in 2017 and 2018. She won a national title in December 2019, which USA Wrestling lists as a U.S. Open and McKendree lists as Senior Nationals.
At McKendree University she wrestled for Sam Schmitz. She went 20-1 in 2019-20 and won the first National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at 136 pounds, then went 12-0 in 2020-21 and won it again.
She was fourth at the 2021 Olympic Team Trials, second at the Senior World Team Trials that year, and eighth at the U23 World Championships in Belgrade. She was 10th at the 2022 U23 Worlds in Pontevedra, Spain, won the U.S. Open, and took the Yarygin Grand Prix in Russia and the Dan Kolov tournament in Bulgaria.
In 2023 she won the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament and Final X at 68 kg, about 150 pounds, for her first Senior World Team. In Belgrade she reached the bronze-medal match, where Koumba Larroque of France took a 10-0 technical fall, and she placed fifth. She then lost a 2-0 Olympic qualification playoff to Ami Ishii of Japan.
She moved to 65 kg. In April 2026 she was the U.S. Open runner-up to Kayla Miracle of the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club, and in May she reached the World Team Trials final in Louisville, where her clubmate Jennifer Page beat her 4-2. She trains in Colorado Springs and is chasing a second Senior World Team.
She trains in Colorado Springs with the Titan Mercury Wrestling Club and wrestles at 65 kg, where she reached both the U.S. Open and World Team Trials finals in 2026.
