Destiny Nunez is from Beebe, Arkansas. At Beebe High School she started as a water girl for the wrestling team, where her older brother wrestled. A couple of weeks into practice her freshman year, she talked to the coach and joined the team. At the 2013 state tournament she placed fourth at 106 pounds in Class 1A-5A. Andrew Menchaca of Maumelle pinned her in 2:48 in the third-place match.
She placed third at the state tournament as a sophomore in 2014. As a junior she wrestled most of the season at 113 pounds so Beebe could get another wrestler at 106. She entered the 2015 state tournament at 106 pounds.
She pinned Tommie Lor of Gentry in the quarterfinals and Noah Forke of Berryville in the semifinals. In the final at the Jack Stephens Center she beat Aiden Menchaca of Maumelle 5-2 to win the title against boys. The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported she was the first girl to win an individual state title in the seven years the tournament had been held. The Arkansas Activities Association named her to its 2015 All-State team at 106 pounds.
As a senior in 2016 she was the No. 2 seed at 106 pounds. She lost an 8-3 semifinal to Noah Forke, then pinned Wesley Solomon of Shiloh Christian in 2:00 for third place.
That fall she enrolled at Lyon College in Batesville. USA Wrestling's 2016-17 preseason preview listed her among Lyon's top freshmen. She was on the women's wrestling roster as a freshman and a sophomore. She then played two volleyball seasons for Lyon and earned Academic All-AMC honors as a senior.
Her 2015 title at 106 pounds still stands as the first Arkansas high school state wrestling title won by a girl.
