Chloe Ayres grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, where her father, Chris Ayres, was the head wrestling coach at Princeton University. She wrestled for Princeton High School and competed against boys in dual meets. In 2020 she placed fourth at the Mercer County Tournament, then the best finish by a girl at that event.
She won titles at the first three NJSIAA girls' state tournaments. She took the 105-pound title in 2019 over Randi Miley of High Point. In 2020 she beat Johnae Drumright of Trenton Central 4-3 in the 107-pound final.
In April 2021 at Phillipsburg High School she pinned all three of her opponents. The last was Riley Lerner of Cedar Creek, pinned at 4:40 of the 114-pound final. She was the first wrestler from Mercer County to win three state titles.
She finished high school 20-0 against girls. She also won a Super 32 title and was an All-American at Junior Nationals in Fargo. The National Wrestling Hall of Fame gave her a Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award for New Jersey in 2021.
At Princeton she joined the varsity roster during the 2022-23 season. She was president of the school's Women's Wrestling Club and a two-time U23 All-American at the U.S. Women's Nationals. In 2024-25 she wrestled at 117 pounds, took second at the Princeton Open and placed fifth at the Midlands Championships with four technical falls.
She graduated from Princeton with a degree in economics. In October 2025 Beat the Streets New York named her to lead its weekly girls-only freestyle practices.
