Alyssa Lampe started wrestling in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, because her brother needed someone to drill with. She wrestled boys through high school and went 133-21. She was the first girl in Wisconsin to win a regional and a sectional title, and as a sophomore she became the first to qualify for the boys' state tournament. In 2006, as a senior, she reached the WIAA state final and placed second.
She moved on to the U.S. Olympic Education Center program at Northern Michigan University and was runner-up at the 2008 WCWA national championships. She took Junior World bronze medals at 48 kg, about 106 pounds, in Beijing in 2007 and in Turkey in 2008, and won the Pan American Championships in Venezuela in 2009. In 2010 she swept the U.S. Open and the World Team Trials and made her first Senior World Team, placing 20th in Moscow.
In April 2012 she pushed Clarissa Chun of the Sunkist Kids to a deciding third match at the Olympic Team Trials at 48 kg before losing the series. That September she moved up to 51 kg for the World Championships in Sherwood Park, Canada, and won bronze. She came back down for 2013 and took bronze again in Budapest, pinning Melanie LeSaffre of France in 46 seconds. USA Wrestling named her Women's Wrestler of the Year for that season.
She won four U.S. Open titles, in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2019, placed fifth at the 2014 World Championships and took bronze at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto. She was third at the 2021 Olympic Team Trials. She spent four seasons as an assistant coach at Linfield University in Oregon, then joined Norwich University in Vermont, where she now coaches the men's and women's teams.
