Computed, not voted

Women's college wrestling rankings

A rating computed from every published bout we have been able to read, by a formula printed in full on the method page. Nothing here is voted on. Nobody's opinion of a wrestler moves her line.

What this is

  • A maximum likelihood fit over published results. Bonus counts as evidence: a fall says more about the gap than a one point decision.
  • Individual ratings at each of the ten weight classes, and a team rating from a simulated dual between every pair of ranked programs.
  • Reproducible. Run the same code over the same rows and the same numbers come back, to the last decimal.

What this is not

  • Not a poll, not a seeding tool, and not a projection of who wins in March.
  • Not complete. The corpus is the bouts schools published in a form we could read, and every set says how many that was.
  • Not high school. Every ranked name here is a college athlete. Girls' high school rankings wait until this pipeline proves out.

The published sets

By division

The programs behind these names are in the college directory, the events are on the calendar, and the weight classes themselves are explained on the weight classes page.
